The Gingerbread house .. that could have been ...

For the past few years we have made a Gingerbread house .. they can be either really really fun .. or not so fun ...

this year i got a little better organized .. we made some homemade icing to use instead .. lets just say that the icing that comes with the Gingerbread house is more like mortar than icing .. and it does not taste so good either .. it does not even dissolve in water .. imagine what is does in your stomach .. i don't think that even stomach acid could dissolve it .. anyway .. that is another post .. check out that concentration on my sweet little bakers face ..

cash did not eat all the decorations this year so we actually had some to put ON the Gingerbread house .. you will notice the white icing line on the side of the house .. well most of the pieces were cracked .. ohhh i hear you say .. i know we were bummed .. but the directions said not to worry .. just smear a little icing on the broken pieces .. push them back together and let it dry for 45 minutes and you are good to go .. so we did .. great fixed .. so we thought .. so we "glued" the broken pieces back together and started decorating ..

cash's little gum ball kept rolling off ..

as you can see .. the "glue" back together method didn't really work .. right after i snapped this picture the whole house crumbled right before our eyes .. poor little ellie was so upset .. the fixed broken pieces did not stay together .. i also don't recommend using your own icing .. it doesn't hold any of the sides together .. ahhh .. now i know why the icing that comes with the house is like mortar .. to hold the pieces together .. note to self for next year .. don't spend all moring thawing unsalted butter and wiping up a batch of delicious icing to be used on a gingerbread house .. heap it onto graham crackers instead and eat them while you work on the gingerbread house .. because honestly ... the gingerbread house does not taste that good .. and does not deserve all that love, unsalted butter, whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla .. but you sure do .. so pile it on .. the icing that is .. on the graham crackers and make yourself a gingerbread house !
